Kansas Commission on Judicial Performance

The Kansas Commission on Judicial Performance was created in 2006 by the Kansas Legislature to improve the performance of individual judges and the judiciary as a whole. The Commission's evaluations of all of the state court trial and appellate judges are provided to the judges and justices for self-improvement. In addition, for appointed judges and justices who are subject to retention elections, the Commission's evaluations are disseminated to the public to help voters make informed decisions about whether to continue those judges and justices in office.

JUDICIAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED

The 2011 Legislature eliminated the funding for the Commission on Judicial Performance for FY 2012 (effective, July 1, 2011).  Based on the Commission's certification that funding is no longer adequate, the Judicial Council has temporarily discontinued the Commission's judicial evaluation program during FY 2012 pursuant to K.S.A. 20-3206.  The Council will seek to have funding restored during the 2012 Legislative Session.
